I originally found this cartoon on mercola.com and just had to share it with our readers. I would like to take a moment to explain the name given to the town in the cartoon. “The Town of Allopath” adds humor if you understand it. Allopathic medicine is a term meaning the same thing as conventional, western or modern medicine. The term “allopath” means different or suffering. This was coined by the father of homeopathy, Samuel Hahnemann. Homeopath means similar or suffering and the term is directly related to the main concept of homeopathic remedies which is like cure like. The origin of allopath is simply based on being the opposite of homeopath.
If you have read some of our articles you may have noticed that we use conventional medicine, western medicine and modern medicine when referring to the pharmaceutical driven medicine of present day. However we never use the terms allopathy, allopathic or allopath. Allopath has been widely adopted by people of alternative medicine and used as a derogatory term for conventional medicine. Although we have strong feelings against the way conventional medicine has become, we choose not to employ the word allopath. I do think naming the town in the cartoon allopath is very funny!

Homeopathy meaning similar suffering is a philosophy that like cures like. If someone has a runny nose, by giving them a remedy with a much diluted small amount of something natural (that would cause a runny nose), it will help stimulate the body to correct the problem. This is the concept of homeopathy. This concept is similar to how vaccines and allergy shots work. In homeopathy the amount of active ingredient is smaller than the amounts in vaccines and allergy shots. This was developed Dr. Samuel Hahnemann in the late 1700s. Many believe that it only gained precedence due to the fact that orthodox medicine of that time included harmful treatments like bloodletting and purging. I believe that if you just listen to the warnings at the end of a pharmaceutical ad i.e. “some patients taking ###### have experienced diarrhea, nausea, dizziness, headache, temporary psychotic break, stroke, and or heart attack. in less than 1 percent death occurred” Then you will realized orthodox medicine has not come that far since bloodletting. This is a short video on homeopathy. I like how first thing acknowledge the symptoms that orthodox medicine likes to just cover up and forget about. The practice of diagnosing symptoms and treating them specifically ignores the fact that the human body is a whole organism working in sync not separate parts working alone.
